London Olympics 2012 (Android, Free)
Those of you on Android who don’t want to shell out for your Olympic apps won’t go far wrong with the London Olympics Ultimate app. It contains a complete schedule events, medal counts and daily news updates about your chosen country, and you can also set an alarm so that you don’t miss your favourite event. Whether you’re downloading one or a dozen Olympic apps, make sure this is one of them.
To keep up with official Olympic coverage, make sure you download the BBC app before the games commence. It includes detailed information about the games, and when used with connected TVs will give the audience access to the BBC’s exclusive interactive coverage of the events. If you’re a sports fan in general, it’s also a good plan to keep this one on board after the games are over.
2012 Olympic News (Windows Phone 7, Free)
For those of you who aren’t users of iOS or Android, the options are slightly fewer, but not non-existent. The 2012 Olympic News app for Windows Phone utilises the tile interface of Windows Phone to show Olympic updates side by side with Facebook and Twitter updates so you can keep in touch with Olympic news just the way you would your own personal life. It’s definitely a handy way to stay in the loop without having to check a special app every five minutes.
